WILL THE CHURCH PRAYER MEETING SURVIVE?

Dr. Joel Beeke in "Attending Prayer Meetings" challenges: "If every God-fearing family, in every God-honouring church around the world took the congregational prayer meeting seriously, what impact would that have around the globe? I believe that Scripture and Church history teaches us that the future of our children, our family, our church, and our nations depend on God's people storming the mercy seat together. Prayer is the normal means that God uses to shower His Heavenly blessings upon the earth…. We customarily record our appointments on our calendar. Will you not mark your church prayer meetings on your calendar as engagements of the highest priority for your entire family? Will you not prepare for them and try to bring a friend or two with you? Let us treasure prayer meetings. Let us engage in it with all our hearts, remembering that Revivals usually begin with prayer meetings."

The church prayer meeting is in need of revival before revival comes to the church!

Recently I did a brief survey of 15 B-P Churches on their prayer meetings in 2011.

  • The 15 B-P Church total membership-6,406.
  • Average total attendance in the 15 churches prayer meetings-354
  • Session leaders' attendance in the prayer meetings-Very Poor

What can we do to revive our own church prayer meetings? Thank God for some families who come together to pray.

Today we average 15 persons on a Wednesday prayer meeting. Not too bad for a church of 120 members. I know that most members are busy and can't make it to this gathering every Wednesday night, but it would be good to see you make an effort to set aside a bi-monthly or a monthly meeting with God's people in Grace Church to come before the Throne of Grace.

The church needs you in this ministry!
