Devotion for Kids
What is a Bible?
Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105
The Bible is God's message
to people. Actually, the Bible is not just one book, but a collection
of many books that have been put together. It is often called
the Book because it is so important-the Bible is God's book. (The
word Bible means book.)
The Bible is our instruction manual for living God's way. It tells
what's right and what's wrong. The Bible has many stories and
lessons that God wants us to know. But most important, the Bible
tells about God and his Son, Jesus, and it tells how we are supposed
to live.
So when you read the Bible, you should see it as God's special
message to you!
Activity
Look at the Table of Contents in your Bible. You will see that
the Bible is divided into two parts. The Old Testament tells how
God created the world. It also is filled with stories about God's
people and tells how God wants people to live. Take a few minutes
to find these stories: Noah (Genesis 7-9) and David and Goliath
(1 Samuel 17). In the New Testament, look for Jesus' healing of
ten lepers (Luke 17), the Resurrection (John 20), and Paul's letter
to the church at Philippi (Philippians 1-4). The Bible has many
great stories that are fun to read.
