Why do I have to give money to church?

"For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves"
II Corinthians 8 : 3

It is part of God's plan for Christians to give money to the church so they can worship God, do his work and help others learn how to follow Him. Like families and businesses, churches have bills to pay-electric, phone, water and so on. Churches also have to pay salaries to pastors, secretaries, organists and others. The church's money pays for Sunday school materials, the support of missionaries and special events. Churches don't sell tickets for the worship services or sell products, so they get their money from people in the congregation who give freely and generously.
God's people have always given money to those who lead in worship and service to God. Abraham did it. The Israelites did it. Jesus did it. Everyone who loves God does it. Leading God's people is a lot of work, so pitch in and help pay for it!

ACTIVITY
Identify some of the expenses at your church-bills, salaries, ministry programs, etc. Talk with your family or Sunday School teacher about the possibility of raising money for a special need that your church has right now. With your family or friends, plan a way to earn money for this project.
