Why do some people die before they are old?

"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better".
Philippians 1 : 21-23

Death entered the world when sin came in. Ever since Adam and Eve, pain and death have been part of life. Eventually, everything that is alive in our world has to die. Plants die. Animals die. People die. Death can come from a lot of different causes: automobile accidents, sickness, old age and many others. And life is short, no matter how long a person lives. Just ask someone who is 60 or 70 or 80.

Because life is short, we should make the most of every day we are alive. Each breath is a gift from God. But also remember that this life is not all there is. After we die, we can live forever with God. Won't that be great?

ACTIVITY
Ask your parents what an "obituary" is. With their help, look through a newspaper to find a write-up about someone who passed away recently. Notice the loving things the family says about the person who died. Pray for the family, that God will help them in their time of sorrow.
