A Great Miracle
"And the rib, which the Lord
God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto
the man".
Genesis 2:22
Adam was very busy! All of
the animals God created came to him to be named. They all received
a name that suited that particular animal. God gave Adam the wisdom
to do this.
Adam noticed that all the animals came in pairs, male and female;
yet he himself was all alone. But God knew this, too, so when
Adam was sleeping, the Lord performed a miracle! Without Adam
realizing it, God removed a rib from his body. Then He made the
rib into a woman and gave her to Adam. Just imagine: you go to
sleep alone and when you wake up, there are two people!
Adam called the wife he had received from God "woman".
Adam would take care of her as her husband, and she would take
care of her as her husband, and she would care for him as his
faithful wife. She and Adam belonged together. This was God's
plan for them, as it is still today for husbands and wives. After
marriage, a husband and wife belong together until death parts
them.
Why did Adam name his wife
"woman"?
