Cycling at Pulau Ubin,
17th March 2010

Before the one week March Holidays began, one of the VBS (Vacation Bible School) 2009 children expressed interest in going to Pulau Ubin. However there was no one she knew who could go with her and bring her around the island. Both of us had been keeping in contact since VBS 2009. I was keen to go with her since it would be a good opportunity to meet up with her. Both of us agreed that we would also ask others whom we knew to join us. She managed to bring along one of her friends who is a non-believer. I also thought that it would be a good opportunity to invite other older VBS children.

Thank God for helping us to quickly prepare an invite to send out to the Primary 5 and 6 VBS 2009 children. The Chen brothers (James and John) helped in the calling of these children for confirmation of attendance. Response was not good because of the nature of the event and clashing schedules. But God did bring one other VBS boy for us to minister to. In the end, three thirteen year olds together with three adults (Hannah, John and myself) went for the trip.

I really thank God for John's availability that day. For He has had some experience with organising trips to and within Pulau Ubin. Pulau Ubin has always been one of the "hot spots" for GBPC Youth Camp. We met some mishaps with two of the bicycles that we were using. John had to walk back to the bicycle shop to get one of the bicycles swapped. Later on, he had to "walk" another bicycle all the way back to the shop again because of faulty gears. John did all of that with no hint of complain. I am thankful for him and for God's protection over us as there was no injury except for one broken shoe strap. God also gave us excellent weather.

We made a stop at one of the beaches and Hannah shared from God's Word about His love for us through Christ's sacrifice. It created a good platform for further conversations regarding the gospel. We had a good chat with the children throughout the trip and invited them for the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services as well as the youth event in June. Do keep them in your prayers and for more opportunities to follow-up past VBS children as well as those who are moving on to Secondary school.
