SHOULD CHRISTIANS WORK
IN THE INTEGRATED RESORT (IR)?

Why not? There are so many vocations in the resort other than the casinos. I don't see why Christians should avoid this place of work. However, if you are going for a job in the casino itself which would involve gambling then you should not do so. We must know where to draw a line as Christians in the working world. Our testimony for our Saviour is vital (Matthew 5: 14-16).
How do we know if it is the will of God for me to work in such a place or in any other place?

Let us determine the will of God by doing the following:

We are told by Paul in 1 Corinthians 10: 23, "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient (profitable); all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." We can do 'anything' we want, can't we? Yes, we can! But we need to consider the following:-

  1. Does it profit or edify me in whatever I do? If the place I work does not strengthen my spiritual life, I need to think if it is a suitable place for me. If I need to labour every Sunday and miss the worship service, then I have to reconsider as it will be detriment to my spiritual life.
  2. We are told by Paul to do all things to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10: 31). The things that I do in my work, does it bring glory to God? We have to make our stand to our bosses who constantly tell us to lie. Working in a casino, for example, as a coup'er does not edify oneself and certainly, it does not glorify God.
  3. Paul told us not to stumble anyone (1 Cor. 10: 32), "Give no offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Greeks, nor to the church of God." Wherever or whatever we work, we must never be a stumbling block to anyone. The world watches us in our character and lifestyle. We need to be careful how we conduct ourselves. If we lie and cheat as the boss tells us to do so, we will lose our Christian testimony.

Beloved, as long as we keep to these guidelines we can be sure we are doing the will of God. If you notice carefully, God's will always concerns our good, the good of others, and the glory of God's name. Use this guideline for all things we do. The Lord will bless us richly when we honour Him first.
