How do poor people get poor?

"Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is
that is destroyed for want of judgment."
Proverbs 13 : 23

Most people become poor by being born in poor families. In fact, many people in the world are born in a poor country where almost everyone is poor. It's not their fault that they are poor. There are many other reasons for poverty, too. Some people are born with a physical or mental handicap, or they are injured in an accident or in war. These people find it very hard to get a good job. Some people have a lot of bad things happen to them, and no one will help them. Some do not have a family to help them. Some are poor because they have been cheated by other people.

No matter what makes someone poor, God would like you to try to help. Isn't he kind to you, even when you make bad choices and mistakes? And you never know when you will need help. So you should be kind to others.

ACTIVITY
Read the fable "The Lion & The Mouse" by the ancient storyteller Aesop. It is a story abut unexpected help. It ends with this moral (lesson): "Little friends may prove great friends".
