Good News Club 11th September '09

Jeremiah 33:3 was the memory verse for the Bible lesson for the Good News Club held on the 11th September at brother Richard and sister Gim Choon's house. Truly God does answer prayers. During the initial planning for the Good News Club, we set our hopes for a very large number of children. Optimism started to fall when as the date drew nearer and our former contacts from the first Good News Club were not giving very positive responses. With just a little bit of hope that there might still be a group of children because we also passed out invites at a nearby school, we continued with plans to hold the Good News Club during the short one week September holiday just before the school exams, amid speculations that we would most probably have around just 6-7 children.

However the holidays were seen as a great opportunity to just follow up children who would otherwise not be able to go to church. We thank God for the many from the church who prayed and it was really a lesson of trusting in God. A number of Gracians from the adult cell group were also very encouraging as they offered to help in cutting the art and craft materials. The Lord also provided enough co-workers for this ministry. One of the co-workers was actually not feeling very well on that day.

On the 11 September itself, one child from the same block that sister Gim Choon lived came. He was brought by his Christian maid. (This boy had come from the first Good News Club. Two from previous VBS and outings came. (They were church member's relatives.) One Gracian brought his son. A Christian friend of mine from the next block brought her daughter and another boy (her neighbour) who also came on his own later. The boy had actually attending a series of children's outreach meetings held by my friend during holidays. His presence was a pleasant surprise. The greatest surprise actually was a girl, Sabrina from the next block. Sabrina's mother was very open. An opportunity for follow up of this girl was presented on that very day. Please pray for wisdom to follow her up. We are thankful to God for His grace in overseeing the smooth running of the entire work.
