Animal Blessings?
A strange theology indeed!
Why do they bless animals in a church service? The Methodist Church
and the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) are practising this. In God's
Word, we do not read of the apostles or Jesus going around blessing
animals.
I am sure these people and churches who are doing such things
will have some "scriptural" support for it. It is so
easy to take Scriptures out of context and use it for such things.
The church today is doing many strange and mysterious things.
You have, for example, the Emergent Church and their wired way
of worship. What has Christianity become? The world looks on the
church and is confused by her mysterious doings. Other religions
may frown upon it. So many unbiblical things have entered into
the church. What can we do about it? How can we stop such things?
I can only think of one way to overcome these things in the church-Go
back to the Bible Alone! Saturate our minds with God's Truth.
If we abide in God's Word, we will not do strange things. "Then
Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put
fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before
the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from
the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD."
(Lev. 10: 1-2 NKJV).
The church's theology must always be in accordance to Scriptures.
We do injustice to the Bible if we take God's Word out of context
and apply them for ourselves as we think fit to do so.
I do not have a problem with Christians praying for their pets,
but not going to the extent of hosting a service for these animals.
Today there are pet lovers who go to the extreme of burying their
pets in a special pet cemetery. Our pets are precious to us, and
they are God's gifts to us to share our joy and love with them.
But they do not have a place in eternity. The only place we read
of animals is in the Millennium (Isa. 65: 25). That's the time
when Christ will reign on earth for a 1000 years and the saints
with Him (Rev. 20). So we will enjoy our pets on earth. But do
not go to the extreme of holding special services for them or
believing that they will end up in heaven with the saints!
