Good News Club
(1st-3rd June 2009)
"Train up a child in the way
he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
(Proverbs 22:6)
My experience with Good News
Club goes a long way back to the eighties. Shortly after one of
the clubs ended, I came to know that one child, who accepted Christ
earlier during one of the club meetings, died suddenly. This event
led me to realize the importance of reaching out to children,
regardless of their age. From then on, I have had a great burden
for the children's ministry.
This year, I thank God for the opportunity to have another Good
News Club in my house. Hannah and I planned and prayed for this
over a period of two months. God has blessed us richly with many
helpers who came forward to help. We thank God also for the good
turn out from the tracting that we all did. Many of the children
heard the gospel for the first time. Five children prayed with
the counsellors the sinner's prayer. We hope to follow up with
visitations, correspondence courses, outings, holiday meetings
and VBS.

The
Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish,
but thatall should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is good for His marvelous blessings upon us. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank the church for praying
for this work. We have seen God's goodness in blessing the Good
News Club held from the 1st to the 3rd of June at sister Gim Choon's
house. God answered prayers in enabling sister Gim Choon to open
her house without any difficulty. The theme of the lessons for
the three days of Good News Club was "One Way", using
the Child Evangelism Fellowship materials. We saw God's hand in
the providing of co-labourers. I have been personally encouraged
by Gracians who willingly made time to help in the cutting and
preparing of art and craft materials, distribution of Good News
Club invites, fetching children to and from Hougang to Sengkang,
various teaching activities on all three days of the Good News
Club as well as the refreshment and counseling activities.
We were pleasantly surprised when one of the children who came
also made jelly for the children on the last day of the Good News
Club. All the help that was rendered in the above helped to contribute
to the smooth running of the Good News Club.
God blessed us by overseeing the work and bringing in the children
for the three days. We had 8 children come on the first day, 12
on the second day and 11 on the third day (later one returned
home with his mother because he was not feeling well). After giving
out invitations to the block where sister Gim Choon stays, plus
two other surrounding blocks and a nearby school, we are especially
grateful to the Lord to bring six children from the same block
where sister Gim Choon stays and four from the nearby school where
invitations were distributed. Out of the six from the block, three
were from sister Gim Choon's tuition contacts. The other children
who came, were children related to Gracians. The fact that they
too were able to come was also by the grace of God.
For the many children who came, it was their first time hearing
about Jesus.
It was a further blessing to us when the Lord touched five children's
hearts to help them see that Jesus was the only way for them to
be forgiven of their sins. Truly all glory be to His name.
The work of the Good News Club is not really over yet. In fact
it is just the beginning. We covet your prayers for God's guidance
and wisdom for sister Gim Choon and myself as we plan to follow-up
these children.
