DOOR KEEPERS OF GOD'S HOUSE
(Psalm 84: 10)

Ushers are the door keepers of the Lord's house. They are the ones who are the frontline greeters and protectors of the church. They may even do the lowest task for the service of the Lord in the church.

When I was in London in 2000, I was told of an incident in New Life BPC (London) of how the church ushers had to tackle a rowdy worshipper who was drunk. This drunkard came into the Church during service and was shouting and disturbing the other worshippers. He had to be physically taken off the pew and put out of the church. In fact, he fought with one of the ushers. I hope this kind of thing will not happen to us here.

In recent months, the United States' churches have been beefing up the ushers' ministry with the hiring of the security personnel in the wake of crazy gunmen shooting in a number of schools. These security men are stationed in churches to keep members safe. These measures have been taken as no one can predict when a crazy church member who is angry with the pastor or the church elders may come into the church and start firing away an automatic pistol or rifle at the pastor and members.

The Church usher's task is not a simple one. Thank God for the smooth ushering each Sunday in our church. Our ushers do not have to face drunkards or irrational and crazy worshippers. We pray that each Sunday will be a pleasant day of worship for all who attend Church and that the usher's task will always be a joy as he serves the Lord.

Usher's gathering

Praise the Lord for the gathering on 11 July in Church. You all make an effort to come for this event. I am sure the chief usher must be very happy. I want to praise the Lord for Bro. Allan Lim and the ushers' committee who have been doing a great job each Sunday. They do not only welcome worshippers, but they also make sure the church is clean and tidy, etc. Keep up the good work, brethren and may God bless you richly as you serve Him in this ministry.
