Devotion for Kids

Is God happy for one country & sad for the other
at the end of a war?

"And He shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore".
Micah 4 : 3

God is saddened by all sin and death. In most wars, nobody wins. People are hurt and killed. Property is destroyed. Countries, cities, neighborhoods and families are torn apart. God is not happy with any of it. He is sad about all the destruction caused by sin, including war.

But sometimes, God does send war as a punishment for evil. The Old Testament explains that some nations suffered in wars as a punishment for their sins against others. Sometimes, war seems to be the only way to stop an evil dictator or an evil government. But that doesn't mean God is happy to see nations go to war.
Ask God to help you grow up to be loving and wise. Thank Him for the people who have died for our country's freedom. Ask him to comfort their families.

ACTIVITY
Did any of your relatives die in a war? Ask your parents if you can visit a cemetery and find the graves of people who gave their lives for their country.
Put flowers by their graves as you thank God for them.
