Why did Jesus appear to Saul?

"And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?"
Acts 9 : 3-4

Saul (later known as Paul) hated Christians so much that he got permission to capture them and put them in jail. But God had other plans for Saul's life. One day, while Saul was travelling to another city to look for Christians, he was blinded by a bright light. God used the light to get Saul's attention. Then Jesus appeared to him. Because of this experience, Saul believed in Jesus. He became a strong follower of Christ and a great missionary. Instead of trying to get rid of Christians, Saul went all over the world helping people become Christians. He wrote many letters to those Christians.

God gives people a second chance and sometimes even more chances! He can help people who trust Him to totally change the way they live.

ACTIVITY

"Amazing Grace" is a famous hymn that tells about how God can change people. It was written by a man who should know! John Newton was a slave trader for many years until God helped him realize his actions were very wrong. He wrote the hymn out of thankfulness for how Jesus' power saved him. Find the song and read the words, thinking of John Newton and his changed life.
