SUMMARY
OF REV. (DR) PAUL WOODS' MESSAGE
10 AUGUST 2009
First Message - "The
Unchanging Vision: God's Plan"
(Gen. 12:3; Psalm 96; Acts 1:8; Rev. 7:9, 10)
The subject matter is "Evangelism
- God's Heart beat for the world". His heartbeat for the
world is a vision and mandate to bring change in humanity. Praying
we might be His hand and feet to be involved in missions.
His purpose is to enable us to see how we can preach Christ from
the Old Testament. The Old Testament is pushing forward the great
plan of redemption through Jesus. Talking about missions people
often will turn to the Great Commission passage in Matthew 28:18-20.
Turn to Psalm 96 people would raise their eyebrows. Missions in
the Old Testament is a closed book in that sense. Evangelism is
about Jesus.
Dr. Paul Woods presents his first message by looking at these
four passages of the Bible. How these four passages connect to
the Lord Jesus. Gen. 12:3 talks about the blessing of the Lord;
Psalm 96 to 98 point out that salvation is of Christ; Acts 1:8
about Jesus telling His followers to go out and proclaim salvation;
Rev. 7:9, 10 show HE is the One supreme consummation.
Salvation line has three themes running through it. The theme
of Blessing; Partnership and World-Wide Scope are the three main
points of his message that morning. For further details of his
message please go online to www.gracebpc.org.sg to hear this Evangelism
seminar message.
The four geographic circles mentioned in Acts 1:8 - Jerusalem,
Judea, Samaria and Ends of the Earth, we are to go and be His
witnesses at the same time. Just go and testify what He has done
for you. Jesus comes that we may have abundant life. "I came
that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
Do you have that life?
"Pulling Heaven down and pushing it out to the world."
Second Message - "The
Changing Vision: God's People"
The subject matter is about
our attitude and the apologetic of life. He talked about our attitude,
not our aptitude which determined our altitude. Another word it's
not how good we are which show the higher we go. It is not how
much we know but how we behave. How you and I reflect the character
of God is very important.
The purpose of the speaker is to show us that God's vision is
to see people changing. HE is in the process of changing people.
We need to watch our Christian behavior. He used lots of illustration,
testimony and personal experience as a foreigner as well as a
missionary himself to bring out his points clearly to us.
Dr. Paul Woods quoted the famous phrase of Nero, while the city
of Rome was in flame, he was playing the violin, what concerned
to him while the whole world was falling apart around him. The
warning for us, who claim we have the truth, we need to live it
out and show it.
He presents his message in two chunks that related to God's heartbeat
- Evangelism and in a broader sense - Missions. First Session
the passage is taken from I Peter 2:4-12. We are the living stones
build into spiritual house. HE is the big stone and we are the
small stones. We are being built in HIM. Life flows from HIM the
big stone into us the small stone. We do the things that HE did.
We need to be like Him. In evangelism we must emphasize the need
to submit to the master-builder, submit to each other. Not only
are we stones, aliens and strangers, but also a royal priesthood,
a holy nation - people belonging to God, that we may declare the
praises of HIM who called us out of darkness into HIS wonderful
light. The ultimate aim is to walk to glorify God.
And the Second Session the passage is on Acts 2:42-47. Beginning
of the church in Jerusalem, Christians were devoted to the apostles'
teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and in prayers.
